Radon
Radon is an extremely toxic colorless gas. It is estimated that 12% of lung cancers annually in the United States are attributable to radon. Fortunately, testing for radon is a simple and relatively inexpensive procedure which can be performed at your home inspection.

For more information about radon:
www.epa.gov/radon/

Mold
The way to control indoor mold growth is to control moisture. Mold spores travel through indoor and outdoor air continually. When they land on a damp spot indoors, they begin growing and digesting whatever they are growing on in order to survive.

To prevent mold growth:
1. Fix the source of the water problem or leak
2. Clean and dry any damp or wet building materials
3. Reduce indoor humidity
4. Vent moisture-generating sources to outside (showers, clothes dryers)

For more information about mold:
www.epa.gov/mold/moldresources.html

Lead
Lead is a highly toxic metal that was used in the past in many household products. Many homes built before 1978 have lead-based paint. Sellers must disclose known information on lead-based paint before selling a home. Buyers have the opportunity to test for lead before purchasing a home.

For more information about lead:
